First Copy of Book
Today I received the first copy of my book. Unfortunately, it’s not actually mine; it’s a copy for a reviewer that I’ll be signing and sending out. Is it weird that the reviewers get a copy of the book before me? Ah well, it’s still pretty cool, if not creepy, to see my face on top of a book. I wonder if I’ll be able to go to a bookstore and find it.
In any event, the official release isn’t for a couple more days, so Amazon still says you need to pre-order it. However, if you do, you should receive it fairly quickly since they’re all printed up and ready to go.

Pre-ordered a copy of your book 2 months ago at amazon. I am really looking forward to read it!

Hi Nicholas. Sorry about the lag getting your copies to you. This is just a snag in the way we do our author comp orders versus reviewer orders. I handle the reviewer orders myself, and preordered them several weeks ago when you sent the list. Your copies are ordered by our assistant, who orders them once she gets official notice the book has published. That's her trigger to order your books, check the contract to make sure we haven't forgotten to pay you anything, and make sure the book's paperwork files are in order. I've asked her to start ordering the author comp copies earlier in the process. So thanks for pointing this out, we should have it working better for future authors. This is, oddly, a manual order process that varies from team to team here. There's no automatic system trigger that says "oh, Nicholas' book has been printed, drop an order for him into the system."
BTW, for anyone reading this wondering who I am, I'm Nicholas' editor here at Wrox and he's been a superstar to work with!
